The study missed the point. More output doesn't mean better. If this "slop" is so cheap to generate now, the real problem is storing and indexing it all at scale. Cloud costs for that volume must be exploding.

We see this in our lab too. My colleagues, their English writing for papers, much faster now with LLM help. The 43% to 89.3% increase for Asian authors rings true. Quality not always perfect but speed is big for publication. This productivity gain real for us.

it's interesting how the paper calls out the boost for non-native English speakers, especially Asian authors. in my experience with infra docs at work, we actually sometimes run internal tools on them just to catch awkward phrasing before it even gets to a human reviewer. makes sense that LLMs would give a big jump in preprint output for those groups.
