ChatGPT is quickly becoming the assistant you didn’t know you needed, able to take on dozens of small but time-consuming tasks so you can focus on the big picture.

ChatGPT is more than a Q&A machine — it can handle dozens of everyday chores. From writing emails to planning meals, the AI is surprisingly versatile. Used wisely, ChatGPT saves hours each week and reduces decision fatigue.

    Writing emails without the faff

We’ve all spent far too long staring at a blank screen, unsure how to word a professional email. ChatGPT can draft that first version in seconds, letting you tweak the tone and details to suit your own style. A useful rule of thumb is never to accept the first attempt. Review, refine, and put your voice back in.

    Planning trips and itineraries

For those who dread the admin of trip planning, ChatGPT is an efficient companion. Share your destination, budget, and interests, and it will generate itineraries complete with cultural sites, dining spots, and hidden gems. Treat the output as a draft — adjust, cut, and swap until it reflects your travel personality.

    Breaking down complex ideas

From blockchain to multi-threaded processing, ChatGPT excels at simplifying tricky concepts. You can specify the level of depth required, whether a Year 8 breakdown or a technical explainer with analogies. It’s a patient tutor for professionals trying to keep pace with jargon-heavy industries.

Chunking big projects into small steps

Overwhelm is often the result of a project that feels too big to tackle. ChatGPT naturally organises information into steps, so ask it to deconstruct a task into manageable parts. The outcome is a clear, prioritised list that makes progress less daunting.

    Analysing tough decisions

Important decisions often stall because emotion clouds our judgement. ChatGPT can lay out the logical pros and cons. While the final call remains yours, the clarity that emerges from seeing trade-offs written down can be liberating.

    Weekly meal plans

Cooking fatigue is real. ChatGPT can prepare a week’s worth of meals tailored to your dietary needs, cuisine preferences, and budget. From shopping lists to recipes, the AI reduces the mental load of daily dining decisions.

    Project planning and strategy

Even seasoned professionals benefit from structure. By feeding ChatGPT the details of a project — constraints, goals, and current progress — it will create step-by-step strategies and phased plans. What might take an afternoon of whiteboarding can be compressed into minutes.

    Personalised workouts

Whether you want to fix your posture, lose weight, or build strength, ChatGPT can produce tailored routines. By factoring in your current fitness level, available equipment, and goals, it provides practical workouts without the price tag of a personal trainer.

    Event and party planning

For anyone who dreads event logistics, ChatGPT can draft task lists, themes, menus, and contingency plans. You’ll still need to do the booking and guest management, but the AI ensures you don’t overlook key details.

    Compiling research notes

From understanding regional conflicts to summarising technical fields, ChatGPT can quickly pull together timelines, profiles, and bullet points. With Deep Research, the AI goes a step further, producing multi-step analysis with citations — a task that would otherwise take days. Learn more about how AI agents will break passkeys for research.

    Organising notes into documents

Messy notes become polished documents with ChatGPT’s structuring abilities. It groups ideas, creates outlines, and expands shorthand into full sentences. Writers, students, and professionals alike can save hours of reorganisation. For those interested in advanced research tools, check out these Six NotebookLM tricks.

    Turning ideas into plans

Dreaming of starting a side business? ChatGPT can reverse-engineer a roadmap from your end goal, breaking the journey into achievable stages. This isn’t just useful for entrepreneurs — it applies equally to career growth, learning new skills, or personal goals.

    Converting files with ease

ChatGPT can take the hard work out of converting text or data from one file type to another. Upload a PDF, DOCX, or CSV and it will reformat the content to your requested format. It’s not only useful for single files but can manage batch conversions too. As with all automation, check for errors afterwards.

    Summarising web articles

Time is scarce and articles are long. By running a web article through ChatGPT, you can get a concise summary that lets you decide whether a full read is worthwhile. You can also instruct it to stay faithful to the text rather than pulling in extra context. This capability is becoming increasingly important as the volume of online information grows, highlighting the role of AI in information management, as discussed in this MIT Technology Review article on AI's impact on information consumption.

    Summarising emails and meetings

Lengthy email chains and meeting transcripts are prime candidates for AI support. ChatGPT condenses the fluff into clear takeaways, giving you key points in minutes. Just remember not to share sensitive, company-protected data with it. For a deeper dive into AI's impact on communication, explore how Claude brings memory to teams at work.

    Simplifying legalese and policies

From insurance contracts to rental agreements, legalese can be impenetrable. ChatGPT can translate these documents into plain English, letting you understand your commitments before signing on the dotted line.

    Checking laws and regulations

ChatGPT can also interpret specific laws, rules, or regulations, simplifying them into accessible explanations. By clarifying jurisdiction or authority first, the AI defers to recognised sources such as government portals, ensuring its summaries are anchored in credible information.

    Creating flashcards for study

Students and professionals alike can use ChatGPT to generate Q&A or multiple-choice flashcards. Upload notes or specify topics, and the AI will produce practice material in seconds, freeing up more time for actual study.

    Building training and learning schedules

From language learning to fitness, ChatGPT creates structured schedules tailored to your goals. Specify your starting point and desired outcome, and the AI will map a realistic plan to get you there.

    Interview practice

Preparing for a job interview can be nerve-racking. ChatGPT can simulate mock interviews based on the job role and industry, offering feedback on your answers. It’s an effective rehearsal tool, helping to boost confidence before the real thing.

Wah, very insightful read! It's great to see AI moving beyond just efficiency. But I wonder, as AI becomes more 'emotionally intelligent', how do we ensure it doesn't inadvertently reinforce existing societal biases, especially when dealing with such diverse needs in Asia? This "human-centred approach" is crucial, lah.

This is a great read, makes me think. While the empowering aspect of AI for those with disabilities is fantastic, I wonder if the "emotionally intelligent systems" part might be a bit premature. It's a huge leap from task automation to genuine emotional understanding, especially for complex Asian family dynamics. Good to see the focus on ethics though.
