The TL;DR: what matters, fast.

Menlo Ventures and Anthropic launch $100M Anthology Fund for Asian AI startups

Fund provides $100K+ funding plus $25K Anthropic Claude model credits to pre-seed/Series A companies

Anthropic scaled from $0 to $5B revenue by Q2 2025, validating AI market timing

Silicon Valley Giant Partners With Claude Maker to Hunt Asia's AI Unicorns

Menlo Ventures and Anthropic have launched the Anthology Fund, a $100 million initiative targeting pre-seed and Series A artificial intelligence companies across Asia. The partnership combines Menlo's investment expertise with Anthropic's cutting-edge AI models to accelerate startup growth in the region.

The fund represents a strategic carve-out from Menlo's latest $1.35 billion vehicle, raised in November 2022. Startups receive funding starting at $100,000 plus $25,000 worth of Anthropic model credits through a streamlined application process.

The Numbers Behind AI's Investment Surge

"From our earliest meetings with Anthropic when we first invested in early 2023, we were impressed by their team's calibre and commitment to world-changing, safe AI innovation. With the Anthology Fund, we've teamed up to further our commitment to the most imaginative AI pioneers."
Matt Murphy and Tim Tully, Partners, Menlo Ventures

Anthropic's meteoric rise validates the partnership's timing. The company scaled from zero to $100 million in revenue during 2023, then exploded to $1 billion in 2024, reaching nearly $5 billion by Q2 2025. This growth trajectory mirrors broader market momentum, with enterprise AI spending surging across Asia-Pacific as organisations race to deploy intelligent systems.

The fund's application process leverages machine learning for initial screening, reflecting the same AI-first philosophy it seeks to support in portfolio companies. Unlike traditional venture diligence, which can take months, the Anthology Fund promises faster decision-making for qualified applicants.

By The Numbers

  • 80% of Anthology Fund applicants possess strong technical backgrounds
  • Anthropic generated nearly $5 billion in revenue by Q2 2025
  • Enterprise LLM spending exceeded $8.4 billion in H1 2025, more than doubling year-over-year
  • Menlo Ventures manages $6.8 billion in assets under management
  • The fund has received thousands of applications from founders across nearly every continent

Asia's AI Startup Ecosystem Takes Centre Stage

The fund's emphasis on Asian markets reflects the region's explosive AI adoption. Southeast Asia's startup scene has reached record heights, whilst countries like South Korea and India pour billions into AI infrastructure development.

Selected startups gain access to Anthropic's Claude models through substantial credits, enabling rapid prototyping and deployment. This approach differs from traditional funding models by providing both capital and technical infrastructure from day one.

Investment Stage Funding Amount Anthropic Credits Selection Process
Pre-seed $100,000+ $25,000 ML-assisted screening
Series A Variable $25,000 Streamlined diligence
Follow-on rounds Menlo backing Additional support Portfolio prioritisation

Strategic Advantages for AI-First Founders

The partnership offers unique benefits beyond capital injection:

  • Direct access to Anthropic's research team and latest model developments
  • Mentorship from Menlo's portfolio network, including established AI companies
  • Streamlined follow-on funding through Menlo's established investment process
  • Technical integration support for Claude model implementation
  • Strategic guidance on AI safety and responsible deployment practices
"The Anthology Fund is a groundbreaking $100 million initiative created through a partnership between Menlo Ventures and Anthropic. Through this collaboration, we aim to catalyse innovation and shape the future of artificial intelligence in the startup ecosystem."
Menlo Ventures Team, Q2 2025 Update

This model contrasts with other major AI investments in the region. While Qualcomm focuses purely on financial backing in India and Nvidia makes strategic investments in specific technologies, the Anthology Fund combines capital with immediate technical resources.

Market Positioning and Competition

The fund enters a crowded field of AI-focused investment vehicles. However, its unique selling proposition lies in the Anthropic partnership, offering startups access to one of the world's most advanced AI systems. Anthropic's recent developments in autonomous agents and interactive collaboration tools provide portfolio companies with cutting-edge capabilities from launch.

The timing aligns with growing enterprise demand for AI solutions. Companies across Asia are moving beyond pilot projects to full-scale AI deployment, creating substantial market opportunities for well-funded startups with technical advantages.

How does the Anthology Fund's application process work?

Startups submit applications through an online form, which Menlo's proprietary machine learning tool evaluates for initial screening. Qualified candidates undergo streamlined diligence compared to traditional venture processes, enabling faster funding decisions.

What makes this fund different from other AI investment vehicles?

The partnership provides both capital and immediate access to Anthropic's Claude models through substantial credits. This technical infrastructure advantage allows startups to build and deploy AI solutions faster than competitors relying solely on traditional funding.

Which regions and sectors does the fund prioritise?

While the fund accepts global applications, it emphasises Asia-Pacific markets where AI adoption is accelerating rapidly. The fund targets pre-seed and Series A companies across all AI-enabled sectors, from enterprise software to consumer applications.

What ongoing support do portfolio companies receive?

Beyond initial funding and Anthropic credits, companies gain access to Menlo's network of established AI companies, potential follow-on funding priority, and strategic guidance on responsible AI development and market positioning.

How does the fund measure success and provide exits?

Success metrics include technical milestones, revenue growth, and market adoption rates. Menlo commits to supporting promising companies through subsequent funding rounds, leveraging their established network of institutional investors and strategic acquirers.

The AIinASIA View: The Anthology Fund represents a new model for AI venture capital, combining traditional funding with immediate technical advantages. This approach addresses a critical gap in the startup ecosystem, where access to advanced AI capabilities often determines competitive positioning. We expect similar partnerships between major AI companies and venture firms to emerge, fundamentally changing how AI startups are funded and supported. The focus on Asia is particularly strategic, given the region's rapid AI adoption and growing technical talent pool.

As AI continues reshaping industries across Asia-Pacific, the Anthology Fund positions itself at the intersection of capital and innovation. The partnership's success will likely influence how other major AI companies approach startup investment and technical collaboration. 100k + 25k in credits is a decent start for a pre-seed. good to see them focusing on asia. for us in manila working in BPO, the big question is always how these new AI tools will integrate, or if they're just gonna automate everything out of existence. really hoping for more of the former where it just makes our jobs easier, not obsolete.
