Hong Kong scientists develop AI model to extend extreme weather forecasting
Researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have developed an AI-based forecasting system that can predict thunderstorms and heavy rainfall up to four hours ahead, improving on traditional models’ 20- to two-hour range and boosting forecast accuracy by more than 15 per cent.
Why it matters for Asia
as climate change fuels more frequent extreme weather across Asia, improved early warnings can give emergency services and communities more time to prepare and respond.
