Discover the Magic of AI in Canva's Latest Features
As a tech-savvy individual, I've always relied on Photoshop for my design needs. However, I've recently found myself drawn to Canva, thanks to its wide range of templates and tools. Following Canva's Create 2024 event, the platform has introduced a host of new AI-powered features that have significantly levelled up its capabilities. Let's explore these magical additions.
Magic Media: AI-Generated Graphics
Canva's latest update brings AI-generated graphics to the table. This feature allows you to create arrows, lines, and clip-art-like graphics. I found Canva's graphics generator to be significantly more useful than generating photos and videos. Why? Because graphics aren't meant to be realistic. With the graphics tool, I could create a usable watercolour camera graphic, something that wasn't possible with the photo generation tool.
Magic Grab: Simplify Image Editing
Once I created the graphic, Magic Grab let me separate the different elements within the graphic for further editing. This tool selects part of the image and allows you to move it around. For example, you can grab the subject in the photo and move it onto a new background. I used this tool to rearrange the camera and floral graphic that Magic Media created for me.

Magic Write: Personalise Your Text
Magic Write has been helping Canva creators refine their words for a while now. The updated tool can now customise the results to sound more like you. What this does is it uses AI to analyse your writing, and then the AI generates a description of your writing style. That description can then be used to make new text match your style. This is similar to how you can teach ChatGPT your writing style.
Resize and Magic Switch: Transform Your Designs
Canva's Resize and Magic Switch makes it easy to turn a square Instagram graphic into the appropriate aspect ratio for an Instagram Story. But the updated tool can now take what you have and turn it into an entirely new type of document, like a blog post, video script, or a presentation. This evolution highlights how AI's quiet revolutions are changing everything in design and content creation.
Highlights: Streamline Video Editing
The new Highlights tool will organise and describe different parts of your video. Then, you can easily drag and drop the best parts into the edited video. This tool works best with projects that have multiple, longer videos. For more on how AI is impacting video, see how OpenAI adds reusable ‘characters’ and video stitching to Sora.

Oh, this is brilliant! I was just looking for ways to streamline my presentations. I’ve used Canva for ages for quick graphics, but I hadn't truly explored these AI Magic tools beyond a quick peek. The idea of auto-generating outlines or even entire design concepts from just a few prompts sounds like a real game-changer. My workload has been crazy lately, so anything that shaves off design time without sacrificing quality is a godsend. I'm especially curious about how well the "Magic Write" performs in Korean—have they trained it on enough nuanced data? I’ll definitely be diving deeper into this later today. Thanks for the heads-up!
This is spot on! I was fumbling with bespoke image backgrounds for my small business, feeling like a right chump. Then I tried Canva's Magic Edit – brilliant, honestly. It's properly saved me oodles of time and the results are quite grand, even for a design novice like me. Definitely a game changer for solopreneurs.
Wow, this article just popped up on my feed – good timing! I've been dabbling with Canva for ages, mainly for quick social media stuff. So, with these "Magic tools," how nuanced can the AI really get? Like, could it tackle more intricate layouts for a school project or business presentation, or is it more for general enhancements? Looking forward to exploring this properly later.
While I get the hype around Canva's new AI stuff, part of me wonders if we're losing a bit of the human touch, no? All these "Magic" tools are great for speed and making things look slick, but sometimes the most memorable designs come from a bit of struggle, that moment you finally crack a difficult layout yourself. Will everything start looking a bit... samey, once AI takes over all the heavy lifting? It's efficient, for sure, but I worry about originality becoming less common. Maybe it's just my old-school thinking, but there's a certain satisfaction when you really work for it, you know?
