    A Supercharged Search Experience

Imagine being able to effortlessly find the best photo from each national park you've visited or track your personal growth through images over time. That's precisely what "Ask Photos" promises to deliver. This AI-powered feature builds upon the already robust search functionality in Google Photos, taking it to new heights. For example, Google's Nano-Banana Makes Image Editing Smarter and Cheaper already offers advanced image manipulation.

    A Glimpse into "Ask Photos"

While the feature hasn't started rolling out yet, we've managed to get a sneak peek at how it will look within the app. One of our readers was briefly granted access to "Ask Photos" on their Pixel 8 Pro, as part of a "pre-release" study conducted by Google. Although the feature disappeared shortly afterward, we gathered valuable insights into its design and functionality.

Here's what we know so far:

"Ask Photos" will be located on the Search tab in the Google Photos app.,A prominent "Ask" button, accompanied by the Gemini logo, will appear alongside the search bar.,The feature will display familiar faces and image categories, making it easy for users to find what they're looking for.,A dedicated page will ask, "What would you like to see?" and provide example prompts or the option to write your own question.

Prompt: A Personalised Journey Through Time

One of the sample prompts for "Ask Photos" is "Photos of me over time." This feature allows users to witness their personal growth and transformation through a curated selection of images. While this specific prompt wasn't functional during our sneak peek, it showcases the potential of "Ask Photos" to create meaningful and engaging experiences for users. This kind of personalized AI interaction is a key aspect of future AI development, as detailed in research on Human-Computer Interaction with AI.

When Will "Ask Photos" Go Live?

Although there's no definitive release date, seeing "Ask Photos" briefly go live as part of a study suggests that it could be relatively close. Google previously stated that the feature would arrive "in the coming months," so keep an eye out for updates. This aligns with Google's broader strategy, as seen with Google AI Overviews (with ads!) coming to APAC.

    谷歌这个“问相片”听起来挺酷的,不过,它会怎样处理我那些几百GB的旧照片呢?会很慢吗?

Wah, this is amazing! My phone's always full of photos from makan sessions and family holidays. Finding that one shot of my nephew's first birthday is a right chore sometimes. If Ask Photos can actually pull up "all photos of Auntie Lucy wearing a red top at Gardens by the Bay," that'd be a lifesaver, for real. Hope it works well, no need to scroll through *everything* anymore.

This "Ask Photos" feature from Google sounds quite promising! I can imagine this dramatically simplifying how my IT colleagues and I sift through project documentation photos, especially with so many older archives. Sorting pictures of network setups or server racks from years back will be a cinch. It’s certainly a timely development for our digital assets.
